AAU Alumni Make History in Super Bowl LV

24 AAU Alumni from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers clenched their second Super Bowl since 2003 and made history by becoming the first team to win in their hometown.

Tamps, Fla. – All spotlights were shining on the biggest stage for the 2020 NFL season conclusion, the Super Bowl LV. 2020 was a year for difficulties for the National Football League and many sports entities throughout the world, but here we are. Sports has persevered, and now 2021 carries the hope for a new year.
One of those hopes came in the form of the Super Bowl LV, where players on either side of the field were hitting the peak of their careers. The competitors came in all shapes, sizes, colors and background, but a small group of 47 players found there roots and love for sports through the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). Twenty-three (23) players from the Kansas City Chiefs and twenty-four (24) from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got their start with the largest youth sports organization in the nation.
Since 1888, the AAU has raised tomorrows leaders on today’s playing surfaces. The tradition continued tonight as the world watched some of the best leaders in the NFL get a shot at history after getting their feet wet in the AAU.
The Buccaneers made history by winning the first ever Super Bowl game in their home town and clenched their second World Championship title since the 2003-2004 season. The Buccaneers scored their first touchdown in the first quarter and never looked back from there. They had something to prove over the defending champions, Kansas City and showed up to win, sealing the score at 31-9. For the AAU Alum, Ronald Jones II led the Buccaneer offense with 12 carries and 61 yards, totaling 192 carries and 978 yards on the season.
On the defensive side for the Buccaneers, Devin White was the AAU Alumni standout, totaling 13 tackles, nine of those solo and two tackles for loss. Jamel Dean had three tackles, all of them by himself. While Carlton Davis had three, two of them solo, and Anthony Nelson had one hit on the quarterback.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, they struggled to find their stride in this game after completing a 14-2 record in the regular season. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes found the hands of AAU Alum Travis Kelce the most. Kelce received the ball 10 times for 133 yards. Fellow Alum Tyreek Hill was Mahomes’ second target with six receptions for 69 yards and one carry for five yards. Mecole Hardman totaled two receptions for four yards.
AAU Alum Ben Niemann led the Chiefs defense with nine stops and four tackles for loss. Chris Jones totaled five tackles, three of them solo. Tyrann Mathieu had four tackles on the night, three solo. Tanoh Kpassagnon had three, while Alex Okafor, Juan Thornhill, Anthony Hitchens and Tyrann Mathieu each had one stop.
