ANAHEIM, Calif. - On Thursday, September 26, 2019, AAU leaders convening at the 2019 AAU Leadership Conference gathered to give back to the Anaheim, California community.
Led by AAU President/CEO Dr. Roger Goudy and AAU Cares Chair and AAU Second Vice-President Joe Gura, attendees worked together to create much-needed hygiene kits for the underserved in the local area.
Partnering with the local YMCA chapter, two thousand (2,000) packages were put together in an assembly line process involving the 240 plus AAU leaders at the Conference. Hygiene kits included such items as a toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, bar of soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and an encouragement note for recipients.
Cash donations were also provided by AAU Track & Field, AAU Gymnastics, Georgia AAU, Central California AAU, Oregon AAU, and Michigan AAU.
The event was part of the AAU Cares initiative. Started in 2016, AAU Cares is the AAU's way of giving back within communities where AAU hosts events. Through AAU Cares, participants learn not only how to win but also the opportunity to engage in acts of kindness and charitable giving.
