YPSILANTI, Mich. (February 8, 2023)
–AAU Track and Field Indoor is set to showcase some of the best runners in the country on their way to the finish line of the 2023 AAU Indoor season. Before the 2023 AAU Indoor Track & Field National Championships finish the season, the AAU 14 & Under Indoor National Championships will give us a snapshot of what’s to come.

The 2023 AAU 14 & Under Indoor National Championships will take place at Eastern Michigan University’s Bowen Field House in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Runners will take their marks starting on February 17 and reach the finish line of the event on February 19.

This is the eighth (8th) year of the 14 & Under Indoor National Championships in Michigan. An estimated 1,000 athletes will travel to Bowen Field House from all over the country. Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin and as far as Colorado and California will send athletes to compete. This events allows athletes in the 14 & Under divisions a chance to earn All-American status.

“This event is often a preview of what to expect from the 14 & Under division athletes that will attend the AAU Indoor Nationals in Virginia Beach and the Junior Olympic Games outdoor in the summer,” stated Karen Hall, Meet Director. “Some of the most talented and competitive athletes will attend the 14 & Under National Championships.”

The 14 & Under National Championship was developed out of the Michigan AAU Indoor Youth Track & Field Series that’s been in existence since 2003. The series initially consisted of approximately four to five track meets each year ending with a championship in March which was open to athletes from 7 to 18 years old. In 2014, Michigan AAU Track and Field quickly realized that there were plenty of meets for the high school aged division, but limited competition meets for the 14 & Under only age division. As a result, the AAU 14 & Under National Championship was born and held its first National Championship at Bowen Field house in March of 2015 and has been growing in popularity ever since.

Athletes will be divided into eight age groups: 5-6 & Under, 7-8 & Under, 9-year-old boys/girls, 10-year-old boys/girls, 11-year-old boys/girls, 12-year-old boys/girls, 13-year-old boys/girls, and 14-year-old boys/girls. The action will begin on Friday, February 17 with multi-events followed by the 400 Meter Dash.
