FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (June 27, 2022)
– The 2022 AAU Karate National Championships will take place on June 28 through July 2 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Athletes will take to the mat with hopes of winning an AAU National Championship. The event will showcase some of the top athletes from around the world.

Athletes from as young as 5 years old up to the Senior/Master division of 35 years old and up will compete head to head in multiple skill sets. Kobudo, Kata, and Kumite will all be featured disciplines where athletes will have a chance to show their skill.

This year will also introduce the Ultimate Rotational Kumite, open to all experience levels, ages 8 and up. Ultimate Rotational Kumite is when participants are randomly assigned to a team and a coach. It is a test to see if the athletes can come together and achieve victory as a collective over any other teams.

Age groups are divided into groups based on experience level; Beginner (no more than 1 year/White belt), Novice (1 year/Green belt), Intermediate (less than 4 years/Brown belt), and Advanced (4 years or more/Black belt).  Each group will have a Grand Champion. Grand Champions receive a grand champion jacket that has been custom made for this year’s nationals. Grand Champion age groups are 5-7, 8-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17, 18-34, and 35 and up for both female and male competitors.
