KNOXVILEE, Tenn. – It was a weekend filled with competition, celebration, hall of fame inductions, and history being showcased as the AAU Girls 3-on-3 World Championships and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Induction took place. Women’s Basketball greats from previous generations teamed up with some of the best youth girls’ basketball players from around the country from June 10-12 to celebrate in an amazing way.

The AAU Girls 3-on-3 World Championships took to the courts on June 10 and 11 to crown a champion. There were three divisions: 5th/6th Grade – 12u, 7th/8th Grade – 14u, and High School – 16u-18u. California, Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee were all represented by teams.

The competition was fierce on the court, but only 3 champions would be crowned. Friday started pool play to set up the brackets for Saturday. In the 5th/6th Grade division, Lakeway Tennessee would come out of the pool undefeated and would carry the momentum to the championship game as they defeated Team Eleate from California. Tennessee Top Gun would take home the title in the 7th/8th Grade division, after they took down ETA Thunder Navy from Tennessee in the championship game. For the High School division, The Magnolia State Aces out of Mississippi would conquer the Lasy TUSC Summerville team out of South Carolina.

We are incredibly proud of all of the athletes who competed over the weekend. It was an electric atmosphere filled with great basketball on display. Congratulations to all of the winners, you are now AAU World Champions.

Off the court, the young athletes got an opportunity to learn more about the history of women’s basketball. During the weekend in Knoxville, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inducted some basketball legends. All athletes in attendance got to participate in autograph and Q&A sessions with the WBHOF Class of 2022, be a part of the Title IX moment in the ceremony, and even attend the WBHOF Induction Ceremony. Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, Debbie Antonelli, was the MC and a huge part of the Q&A portion as well.

This year marks 50 years since Title IX was adopted. To start the ceremony, this fantastic accomplishment was honored by discussing the progress of five generations of girls' basketball starting from 1882 to 2022. Athletes had the opportunity to showcase this era by wearing the latest AAU basketball uniforms on stage to showcase how far the style of the game has come. Dr. Sarah Hillyer ran the presentation of Title IX for the young athletes in the audition.

When it came time to present the WBHOF Class of 2022, AAU Alumni represented well. The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2022 features three Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) alumni, including Becky Hammon, DeLisha Milton-Jones, and Alice “Cookie” Baron. "It was such pleasure watching our AAU girl basketball players compete in 3on3," said Jerry Codispoti, National AAU 3on3 Director and WBHOF Board Member. "But more importantly, we were to able to bring attention to Title IX and educate our young ladies on the history of the game."

A special thank you to everyone who made this happen. Thank you to Visit Knoxville's Sports Commission for their support, and a special thank you to Dana Hart, the President of the WBHOF.
