The AAU World Championships are back for the third year since the rebranding of the AAU Basketball National Championships into a worldwide event

ORLANDO, Fla. – It’s time to find out who the top teams in AAU Basketball are. The AAU World Championships are back for the third year since the rebranding of the AAU Basketball National Championships into a worldwide event. Both boys and girls will compete across various locations throughout the end of June and all of July.
 
An estimate of over 730 teams will take to the courts with hopes of getting their hands on an AAU World Championship trophy. Around 8,700 boys and girls will compete to take home gold.

More than 400 teams will compete on the boys’ side and approximately 325 girls’ teams will look to win. The top 16 teams at the AAU Boys’ World Championships will gain top seeding heading into next year and the top 10 teams at the AAU Girls’ World Championships will receive the same.
 
On average, around 30 states are represented per event, as well as territories such as Puerto Rico, Bahamas, and the District of Columbia. The global event will showcase athletes from 2nd grade, all the way up to 20 and under.
 
The AAU Boys’ World Championships will tipoff on June 28 and run through August 3. The events will take place in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Maryland.

12u – June 28 – July 1 – Hampton, Virginia
6th Grade – July 1-3 – Hampton, Virginia
13u – July 1-4 – Greensboro, North Carolina
7th Grade – July 1-4 – Greensboro, North Carolina
14u – July 18-21 – Orlando, Florida
8th Grade – July 18-21 – Orlando, Florida
15u/9th Grade – July 13-16 – Orlando, Florida

The East Coast DIII Championships, Southeast DIII Championships, West Coast Championships, and Midwest Championships will also be taking place alongside the AAU World Championships.
 
The AAU Girls’ World Championships will dribble in on June 24 and run through July 31. The events will take place in Virginia, Tennessee, Minnesota, Florida, and Ohio.

One of the flagship sites for the AAU Basketball World Championships, ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex is a special spot for basketball. Athletes will have the chance to play on the same floors where the NBA held its "bubble" just a couple of years ago. It is also the home for the NCAA Holiday Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament that young players have been watching on television.
