ORLANDO, Fla. (May 23, 2022) — The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and City of Orlando Parks and Recreation recently hosted a second Family Fun Day event at Dr. James Smith Neighborhood Center Park.

These Family Fun Days are part of the AAU and the City of Orlando Parks and Recreation’s plan to introduce more sports to Orlando youth and encourage participation in athletics. During the first two days, around 75 to 100 young athletes from the ages of 4-14 took part.

On Monday, May 23 the focus was on baseball and how children can learn effective ways to get active in sports. The clinic, led by Korey Reed, Florida AAU’s baseball co-director, taught kids how to throw and catch, footwork drills, and fun interactive games, like pickle.

On top of the athletic aspects of the Family Fun Day, everyone who participated also got an AAU drawstring bag, T-shirt, and free food. The next and final Family Fun Day is Saturday, June 4. We hope to see you then at Lake Fairview Park from 10 am – 2 pm!

While this is the final Family Fun Day scheduled at this time, the plan is to continue offering a series of sports programming through the City of Orlando Parks and Recreation and the AAU.
