05/22/2020

The state of Florida has announced it is listing restrictions on youth activities such as youth sports events. The Volleyball Nationals event is slated for July 14-22 in Orlando, Fla.

Due to the unprecedented nature of the impact of the COVID-19 ("Coronavirus"), youth sport activities had been rolled back since March as everyone looked to stop the spread of the virus and keep everyone safe.

As progress has been made in contianing the spread of the disease, the state of Florida is looking to re-open more businesses and activities as it continues to extend phase 1 of the state's re-opening plans. The latest lifting of restrictions impacts youth activities such as youth sporting events as well as provides updates on when Central Florida area theme parks and attractions are opening.

YOUTH SPORTS & OTHER ACTIVITIES

Effective immediately, the state of Florida is lifting restrictions on youth activities, including those on youth athletics and summer camps.

“We believe this makes sense based on the data," Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, “We trust parents to be able to make decisions in conjunction with physicians and community leaders and coaches.”

Governor DeSantis further went on to explain that people need to check with their local or county offices for specific implemention in their local areas since each county's guidelines and mandates will vary.

AREA ATTRACTIONS & RESTAURANTS

Furthermore, local area theme parks and attractions are announcing their own re-opening dates with some of the smaller attractions opening up as early as May 22.. One major Central Florida theme park has announced it will start a phased re-opening beginning June 5.

These entities join other Florida businesses that have been allowed to re-open as long as proper containment and mitigation measures (such as wearing masks and tables 6ft apart) have been enacted such as restaurants (May 4) and fitness gyms (May 11) in the recent weeks. Restaraunts and retailers are also open at 50% capacity as of May 18.
