2019 Maryland AAU Awards Banquet Honors Outstanding AAU Members

AAU President and CEO Dr. Roger Goudy was honored as the keynote speaker for the 34th Maryland AAU District Sports Awards Banquet on Sunday, Nov. 3.

BALTIMORE, Md. – AAU President and CEO Dr. Roger Goudy was honored as the keynote speaker for the 34th Maryland AAU District Sports Awards Banquet on Sunday, Nov. 3. The city of Baltimore Mayor Bernard Young also wrote a heartfelt note of congratulations to athletes, coaches, volunteers and family.
 
The Maryland AAU District is one of the top 15 AAU Districts in participation numbers annually, hosting multiple sports programs including basketball, baseball, football, swimming, volleyball and track and field, to name a few.
 
Dr. Goudy was the recipient for two outstanding awards that night. He received an award as the 2019 Keynote Speaker, as well as was recognized by Maryland AAU Track and Field.
 


“I am humbled each year by the hard work and dedication that our AAU volunteers put forth for this organization,” said Dr. Roger Goudy.  “And to speak at such an event where young minds are eager to learn about the value of success, leadership and teamwork, I am extremely honored and proud.”
 
The Maryland AAU District gave out awards for athletes in each of their nine sports, along with outstanding coaches and volunteers. The Maryland AAU Outstanding Athlete Award is presented to the athlete who excelled in performance in their respective sports, used their talents to the best of their abilities and was motivated to excellence in their athletic endeavors.
 
“AAU athlete awardees are talented, competitively spirited and dedicated to taking their games to the next level,” said Ben DuBose, Maryland AAU District Governor. “They inspire us. They are a tremendous source of strength, inspiration, commitment and determination, and they whole heartily deserve [this] recognition.”
 


In addition, the Maryland AAU awarded six specialized category awards to AAU members:
 
John G. Considine Award – “Sports Director Membership Award”

Largest Percentage Increase in New registrations: Wrestling
 
William “Bill” Stevens – “Club Executive of the Year Award”
Mary Kathryn Haynes, Baltimore City Track & Field Club
Pam Utsilton, Wrestling

Joe Cucchiaro, Swimming
 
Ralph L. Durant Memorial Award –
Elise Cooper, Track and Field
Ryan Willie, Track and Field
 
Governor’s Award -
Eric Allen, Sr., I5 Elite, Track and Field
LaChelle Bibbs, 2028 Team Mom, Boys Basketball
Rachel Ehlers, Wrestling
