Georgia AAU District Governor James Henry is excited to bring AAU back to the schools in his area

(OCTOBER 10, 2019) - As the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) partners with the National Fitness Foundation (NFF) to take over administration of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP), one AAU district is gearing up to actively promote the program to schools in the local area.

"I remember back in 1992 when I first became involved in AAU the schools displaying the presidential challenge fitness test banners with AAU on their walls," said James Henry, Georgia AAU District Governor. "I'm excited to have the opportunity to put it back in those schools again."

James plans on approaching schools in his Georgia area, explaining to them the new program and the benefits of utilizing the software that can be purchased through International Health Technologies (IHT).

“It is so important for the AAU to promote overall physical fitness, health and well-being in the communities in which we run events,” said Dr. Roger J. Goudy, President/CEO of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). “AAU district leaders, such as James Henry, who can explain the benefits of administering the PYFP program is a huge advantage for the promotion of PYFP and the AAU in schools across the country.”

Earlier this year, the AAU became the first founding partner of the National Youth Sports Fund, an endowment managed by the National Fitness Foundation, the only congressionally chartered non-profit focused on youth sports, health, and fitness in the United States.

“We're extremely proud to partner with AAU on the Presidential Youth Fitness Program," said Clay Walker, Executive Director of the National Fitness Foundation. "As AAU takes over the implementation of the PYFP program, AAU becomes the only organization in the country to manage in-school and out-of-school youth sports and fitness programs.”

In conjunction with the NFF and IHT’s assessment software, the AAU will administer the Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP), a program aimed at modernizing fitness education in school physical education classrooms by emphasizing student health, goal setting, and personal progress.

James is excited about to be involved in promoting the program to the next generation of students. His
goal is to sign on ten (10) schools this year to utilize the assessment software from AAU's partner IHT.

“I want to use it as a test phase of how this thing is going to fly.” said James Henry, Georgia AAU District Governor. “Schools still integrate the PYFP program some degree, but now with the AAU back administering the program and with the addition of the preferred software, managing the various student's fitness tests will make it easier and more convenient than ever to record data.”

Ultimately, AAU’s administration of the Presidential Fitness Program is a continuation of its mission to offer athletic and physical fitness opportunities to everyone across the United States and the world.

“Sports and fitness work hand and hand, and who better to implement the PYFP then the organization that has been running youth sports programs for over 131 years,” said Dr. Roger J. Goudy, President/CEO of the AAU. “Our districts are the backbone of this program and  we are thankful for the support and service of our district leadership.”
