ORLANDO, Fla. – This past weekend, May 18-19, AAU Volleyball hosted its first Adult Nationals Championship at the Orlando Sports Center. Eleven teams were in attendance for the event, with several local teams as well as two from other cities and one team from out-of-state.

Both men’s and women’s open division began with pool play on Saturday morning. Team Orlando Strong led the men’s pool with a perfect 5-0 record, while Team High Impact held undefeated record on the women’s side.

Tournament Sunday had a double elimination bracket that had all teams playing at their best. “We love the competition that Florida brings. It is very high intensity,” commented Mike from Orlando Strong Men’s team. “We are able to mesh together and find a new way to play.”

Many of the teams were comprised of club volleyball coaches or former collegiate athletes, making comradery and entertainment level top-notch. “It is amazing as a retired college athlete to be able to come back out here and play with your friends again in that same atmosphere,” said Thalia of High Impact.

The AAU Adult National Champions crowned after the two days of competition were High Impact (Women’s) and GVC (Men’s).
