The road to the 89th AAU James E. Sullivan Award presented by Eastbay started on Monday, April 15 in New York City. The finalists arrived in style to the New York Athletic Club, a truly remarkable club filled wall-to-wall with rich Olympic and athletic history. The most famous athletic club in the United States was founded in 1868 and has seen thousands of Olympians walk through its halls.

The finalists and their families then traversed the city on a double-decker bus, taking in the sights and sounds of some of New York’s famous locations like Rockefeller Center, the Empire State building and Times Square.

An Eastbay panel discussion followed at NYC33, where the finalists talked about their “Love of the Game” with host Rachel Demita, a former AAU athlete and television personality for ESPN and Bleacher Report. Spectators got to learn a little more about each of the athletes in how they overcame adversity, who their hero was and their journey to AAU Sullivan Award. You can watch it again here.

The night was wrapped up with dinner and a social hour at the Landmarc in Manhattan.

Join us tomorrow night as we reveal the athlete that will become a member of a prestigious group of top amateur athletes and win the 89th AAU Sullivan Award. The event can be live streamed here on Facebook.
