The AAU Track & Field program wishes a fond farewell to one of its mainstays, track & field official Bill Lange.

A longtime track official with more than 25 years of experience, Lange got his start officiating for the USATF in the high jump.  Through the years he worked numerous AAU Junior Olympic Games and AAU Club Championships.

An innate innovator, Lange developed a device to assist in accurate readings and easy placement of the high jump bar. This device went on to be adopted by officials across the country.

During Lange’s illustrious career, he mentored numerous track officials who remember Lange as a patient, detailed teacher.

While the bulk of Lange's officiating responsibilities took place at local, regional and national USATF and AAU
meets, he also worked numerous NCAA meets as well.

A highlight of Lange's career was being selected to work the World Special Olympics, an honor he still recalls fondly.

Recently, Lange was recognized for his years of service to the sport of track & field during the Clemson Orange and Purple Elite Meet held on January 11, 2019.
